With tinting, you can have lashes and brows that look natural but provide dramatic framing for your eyes. No need to use messy make-up, or to reapply it throughout the day.

What is eyebrow and eyelash tinting?

An eyelash and eyebrow tint is a specially formulated dye for colouring the lashes or brows.

The tint is mixed, applied to the brows or lashes and left for a few minutes to develop. It’s then removed, leaving lashes and brows looking dark and full for weeks.

Steps for before you dye eyebrows and eyelashes

Because the eyes and facial skin are sensitive areas, it’s important to do a sensitivity test prior to use.

To proceed, remove all eye and skin makeup on and around the eyes, and make sure that the skin is clean and dry.

Next, make sure that your brows are neatly shaped by tweezing or waxing.

Apply eyebrow and eyelash tinting petroleum jelly to the skin around the eyes to prevent the dye from staining your skin. You can also apply protective eye pads or eye sheets for this purpose.

It’s important not to allow any dye to make contact with your eyes. Flush them with water or sterile eye drops immediately if this happens.

How to tint your eyebrows or eyelashes at home

The steps will depend on the eyebrow tint kit or eyelash tint kit you bought, but in general it works as follows:

1. 1. 1. Prepare your skin and eyebrows for tinting as explained above
      2. Mix the colour in a small cup or bowl
      3. Apply the tint to the lashes and brows with your kit’s application tools. Alternatively, use a mascara or eyebrow brush, or an ear bud
      4. Wipe off excess tint
      5. Wait for the tint to develop; the kit will tell you how many minutes to leave it on
      6. Remove with the tools supplied with your kit or a wet cotton pad

How long does eyebrow or eyelash tint last?

Most eyebrow and eyelash tints last for about four to six weeks. This is because lashes and brow hair reach the end of their growth cycles quite quickly and then fall out.

Does tinting damage eyebrows or eyelashes?

No – not if you use a good-quality tinting kit.

Never use normal hair colour to dye your lashes or eyebrows. You could damage your eyes, as well as the sensitive skin around them.

How often can you tint your eyebrows or eyelashes?

You can recolour lashes and brows every four to six weeks, or once the original tinting fades.

Does tinting work on dark eyelashes or eyebrows?

Yes. Tinting makes even dark lashes and brows appear longer, thicker and fuller.
