Everything You Need to Know About Keratin

Ladies - let’s face facts, we all want long, shiny, straight and manageable hair. It’s every girl’s dream. But how can we achieve this and still keep our hair looking healthy? Our hair is exposed to pollution, hair products with harmful chemicals and heat treatments such as blow-drying and hair-straighteners. All this tends to damage the natural keratin of hair. Once the keratin from your hair is depleted, your hair is exposed to more damaging elements. For a very long time, oiling and conditioning has been considered the most reliable hair treatment for frizz-free and luscious hair.

What is Keratin

Keratin is a protein and the major component found in skin, hair and nails; in fact, the hair is mainly composed of keratin-associated proteins. Keratin acts both as an external protective protein in the cuticle (the outer layers of a hair strand) and as an internal structural protein in the cortex (the inner core of the hair that determines its strength).
Keratin is depleted when hair is damaged physically, chemically or from environmental factors, such as the sun. This keratin loss exposes the hair’s cortex, making it susceptible to additional damage. Replenishing lost keratin helps to correct porosity and smooth the hair’s surface. It restores strength, giving the hair a more youthful, healthy appearance.
Keratin therapy is a chemically-based hair treatment created to regain that lost elasticity and health of your hair. In other words, replenishing keratin lost is put back in your hair by using an artificial method, which is called keratin treatment. Keratin treatment replenishes the lustre of your hair, smoothing the hair, thus giving it a lush, soft texture, evening out any unwanted curls. It is perhaps the very best way of getting those smooth, straight, glossy locks! Once you opt for keratin treatment, your hair will appear straight, shiny and tangle-free. This is not a permanent solution, although it’s the best alternative for straightening hair.

If blowing out your strands feels more like playing tug-of-war, you could benefit from its smoothing results. Just like contouring, strobing, and ombre highlights, Brasilian keratin treatments are yet another topic that continues to trend in the hair industry. Brasilian keratin comes with amino acids, which means that it does not have the harmful chemical ‘formaldehyde’. Formaldehyde is a health-risking chemical that affects not just your hair but it’s also dangerous for your overall health. Most of the countries have banned its use in keratin treatment.
Brasilian hair keratin treatments are best known not just for straightening the hair, but also for rebuilding the damaged hair structure. These days, Brasilian keratin treatment is the preferred choice over the earlier keratin hair straightening treatments.

How Does the Brasilian Keratin Treatment Work?

Brasilian Keratin treatments are a process that helps bind keratin to hair. A hot flat iron is used for the sealing process. The heat from ironing makes the mixture work for straightening the hair. There are other chemicals that work in conjunction with keratin. Without those chemicals, keratin cannot function properly. This whole process takes about 90 minutes. If you have longer hair, it may take a bit longer. Once the sealing process is complete, don’t wash your hair for about three to four days, as the entire process of locking the keratin takes time.
Brasilian hair-straightening treatments eliminate frizz, straighten the hair and lasts for about three months. This treatment can be performed on all types of chemically-treated, bleached, highlighted, coloured, permed, relaxed or previously-straightened as well as virgin hair. The treatments guarantee completely straight hair if done correctly, and last around 10–12 weeks; repeating the treatment every few months will allow for treatment of new growth.

With the Brasilian Cacau The Keratin Express treatment, Keratin treatments can now be done at home. However, it is important to follow this procedure to get great results:
1. Wet the hair and remove excess water with a towel.
2. Apply approximately 50 ml of the Keratin Express Treatment onto the hair and massage with circular movements until it lathers. The length of timing depends on the type of hair and extent of frizz. The frizzier and coarser the hair, the longer it should remain on the hair.
3. Do not rub the scalp and do not apply directly onto the scalp.
4. Let it work for 20 – 50 minutes.
5. Rinse thoroughly and dry the hair 100% with a hair-dryer.
6. Separate the hair into thin strands and flat iron from roots to tip 8 to 12 times, at temperatures between 180°C to 230°C. For added protection, it is recommended to use the Brasil Cacau Primer, which protects your hair from heat damage and leaves it healthy, silky and frizz-free.
7. Now you're set to go!
