Beauty Trends from Coachella 2018

Double buns and braids were, by far, the most popular hairstyles worn at this year’s Coachella. These hairstyles were followed closely by pigtails and air-dried curls and waves. People spotted plenty of colour-spiked plaits and locks. Watercolour shades of pink, purple, and blue misted into waves and curls were also very popular. The dominant trend was clear in make-up, too. Dense crystals to fine glitter; a swipe of highlighter in a bold, metallic finish was on almost everyone’s cheeks. Vibrant lip colour in shades of orange, peach, and classic were popular, too. Below are a few of the most popular trends spotted at his year’s Coachella.

This is certainly a gorgeous hairstyle that has a special little something that stands out and takes your look to the next level. You can have different variations for this style to suit your look for the day. This type of braiding is the perfect example of a hairstyle and is in a league all of its own. Vamping up your French or milkmaid braids, fishtails or cornrows, is super-easy and so much fun. Here are a few steps that you can follow to achieve embellished braids: firstly, begin with a part on the right side and separate out a section of hair about five cms back from the hairline, and down to the left ear. Clip this to one side with an alligator clip or hair tie. Repeat on the right side of the head, sectioning off a portion of hair. Clip the rest of the hair up and out of the way to make tying the flower crown easier. Add in some clip-in extensions if so desired. You can now separate out a section of hair from the top of the ears and back towards the back of the head. Divide this section into three pieces for the braid. Cross the strand in the left hand over the middle strand. Now, cross the right strand over the middle strand. Cross the left strand over the middle and bring in a section of hair.
Cross the right strand over the middle and bring in a section of hair. Finish braiding the hair down into a regular braid. Tie off the end with a clear elastic band. Gently loosen the braid by pulling on the edges; this creates a larger braid. With the hair on the left, twist it upwards and wrap it behind the head so it sits on top of the French braid. Take a hairpin and slide it over the hair in a horizontal direction towards the left ear. This will make it more secure. Tuck any strand ends under the twists and into the hair to hide them. Finish by smoothing any flyaways with hairspray.

Centre Partings

They say if you can rock the middle part hairstyle it’s either you’re youthful and innocent, or you’re a modern flower child with a real affinity for the ‘60s and ‘70s! A middle part hairstyle will give a round face the illusion of length and symmetry; it also narrows and adds balance to your face. It will highlight the proportionate perfection of an oval face. If your face is long, it will give the illusion of roundness. There are many variations you can experiment with this hairstyle. To soften the look of a middle part hairstyle, try parting your hair just slightly off-centre— just under a cm. A strong, blunt fringe, tousled fringe, micro-fringe or side-swept fringe will give a centre part an even more distinctive personality. Thick, straight hair worn with a centre part creates a gorgeous curtain that frames the face. Medium or thick and wavy hair will appear fresh and innocent with a middle part. Direct, large waves away from your face will give a sweet and sexy look. If your hair is of medium length, skip the centre part or if your hair is super-short—the effect can be rather cartoonish and you will want to avoid that at all costs.

Space Buns

Space Buns

Coachella delivered some of the best festival styles we’ve seen so far. Every model, influencer and celebrity took their style to the next level and showed off some seriously trendy festival fashion. Space buns, also known as double buns, remind us of our childhood obsession with the Spice Girls. They’re cute, fun, unique, and easy to do – and they’re also super-versatile. You will be happy to know that there isn’t only one way to do space buns. You can have fun with the style by tweaking it to make it your own. If you’re not sure what you’re doing, here’s the most basic space bun tutorial.
First part your hair down the centre and spray flyaways with hairspray. Put two fingers in front of where you want the bun. Wrap the hair forward and around your index and middle fingers. Twist your wrist 360 degrees.
With your middle finger and index finger, snag the tail and pull the hair almost all the way through. Take 2 bobby pins and secure the bun so that the bobby pins cross each other. If there is a little bump or bubble, you can use another bobby pin to hold it down - repeat on the other side!

Body Glitter

Glitter has become a festival favourite over the past few years. Women have been using it increasingly on their skin and in their hair. It has become popular to put glitter and gemstones on breasts as well. While some use glitter above their chests, others use it in place of tops and bras. While Bo-ho dresses and plenty of skin are all staples at festivals, glitter has become a major go-to as well; these include sparkle dusted in hair parts, to sporting sequins on the face. There are dozens of ways to dazzle, and Coachella festival goers this year demonstrated them all: iridescent shimmer, chunky glitter, full-on crystal embellishments — you name it, they wore it. Another way to spice up your hairstyle is with chunky glitter. The sparkle will draw attention right across the concert venue — which is the whole point of wearing glitter, isn't it? When applying your make-up, instead of shimmery shadow, go big with cosmetic glitter gel as your eye make-up. The same way you would blend different shadow shades to enhance your eyes, you can mix different kinds of glitter for a cool effect.
